Ultimate barbecued portabello mushroom burger

Juicy and flavorful, this barbecued portabello mushroom burger will be a hit at your summer barbecue!

  • 2 large portabello mushrooms
  • 4 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce


  1. 1. Remove the stem from each mushroom.
  2. 2. With a small spoon or knife, scrape the dark gills out from inside the mushroom and discard.
  3. 3. In a bowl combine all ingredients except for barbecue sauce.
  4. 4. Place the mushrooms in the marinade and coat well and let them sit for 20 minutes, turning occasionally.
  5. To Barbecue:
  6. 1. Place the mushrooms bottom side down on the grill and let cook 5 minutes.
  7. 2. Turn the mushroom over and allow the mushroom to cook on the other side.
  8. 3. Brush the mushroom with barbecue sauce on either side, flipping to allow the mushroom to cook all the way through. Depending on the size of the portabello mushroom you may need to do this a few times, as cooking times may vary.
  9. When your mushroom is cooked to your satisfaction, remove and place on a bun and add your favorite fixings! It's truly delicious!
